If you’re an escape room enthusiast, chances are you’ve heard of a zombie escape room. Imagine yourself being caught in a world overrun by zombies. The chances of your survival seem slim, but with the right strategies in hand, you’ll be able to outwit and defeat these flesh-hungry foes.

What is a Zombie Escape Room?

The plot for this type of escape room revolves around locking you and your friends in a room in the middle of a zombie outbreak. The zombies are tied to a chain, and you’re given only one hour to solve puzzles and clues to get out of the room before they break in, and you become their next meal.

How Can You Outwit Zombies?

Thinking quickly and strategically is the key to winning all escape room games, especially against a zombie. They might walk slowly, but their bite moves fast!

The key to beating them is to know how to solve puzzles and clues quickly. You don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes or a genius to win in a zombie escape room, but with basic information about these puzzles and clues, you’ll be able to get out of the room before they do. Here are some common puzzles and clues you might run into during your zombie escape room:

1. Hidden Clues

Hidden clues are one of the toughest puzzle categories to crack in a zombie escape room. Part of the fun is that the clues are usually not set out in the open for you to easily notice.

For instance, a bookshelf may be concealing a book with a hollow interior, holding a key. Or a dresser may not only have drawers to pull open and look through but also a false back concealing a hidden compartment! Every part of the room could be hiding more than one clue, so be sure to check everything at least twice.

2. Atmosphere Clues

One interesting thing about zombie escape rooms is that in addition to puzzles and clues, the atmosphere itself can also provide valuable information. For example, if you’re listening closely, you might be able to hear a series of taps or beeps. This could be Morse code!

Or, if there is a mysterious whispering, take a moment to listen closely and see if you can make out what it’s saying. It could be a clue!

The key to solving atmosphere clues is to pay attention to every detail in the room. Take a closer look at the decorations, writing, and objects around you. Don’t be afraid to take a few risks and try out something new!

3. Puzzles

Puzzles are typical in any escape room, and they’re often the most difficult to solve.

Physical Puzzles: These are the most typical category of zombie escape room puzzles. You may be required to assemble a complex puzzle out of wooden or plastic pieces in order to reveal the clue inside.

Word Puzzles: These puzzles require you to use anagrams and word games to find the answer. Does a word appear to have been left out of a poem? Are there mixed-up letters around the room that could come together to form a word? That word might be a vital part of your escape!

Math Puzzles: These puzzles involve basic math equations that need to be solved. What’s the combination for a locked safe? Is there an equation you need to solve in order to determine the answer? Keep an eye out for any math signs or symbols, like plus signs or parentheses. They may have to go together for a puzzle!

Keep in mind that these puzzles may be hiding behind other objects or even in plain sight. A simple equation may give you the number needed to open a combination lock, or a Sudoku puzzle on the wall might need to be solved.

In addition to these puzzle categories, don’t forget to consider the atmosphere of the room itself. It can also provide valuable clues. Who knows what you could find if you take the time to look around?

There are various escape rooms that you can play to test your skills against zombies. But this zombie escape room from Lock Paper Scissors is our favorite. It will transport you into a post-apocalyptic world where your only choice is to outwit the undead or become their next meal.
